Youth Education Project at the Great Frederick Fair

Mentoring Young People

To help young people grow up to be effective community leaders, our club maintains a strong connection to youth and young adults. Rotary International offers opportunities for clubs to sponsor Interact and Rotaract clubs for high school and college students, mentor youth for leadership awards, and facilitate youth exchange, career development and mentoring programs. Through these programs, young people learn and practice the principle of service above self, earn scholarships, travel on cultural exchanges and help their local and international communities through service projects.

Throughout the school year, we invite two students from each Frederick high school to be our guest at our weekly meetings for a month. Various Rotarians host the students, introducing them to fellow members and helping them make connections based on their hobbies, interests and career aspirations.

During Fair Week in September, volunteers from our club help supervise groups of elementary-aged school children touring the Fair’s 12 learning centers: dairy, sheep, swine, poultry and rabbits, beef, equine, Birthing Center, 4H displays, “Machinery Row,” vegetable garden, City Streets and Country Roads, and Farm and Garden.
