ROTARIANS IN ASSISTANCE

Speaker: Geordie Wilson, Publisher, The Frederick News-Post

In a journalism career spanning more than 35 years, Geordie Wilson has worked as a reporter, an editor, a publisher and a website developer. He has sold ads, launched publications, run a press and delivered papers when needed. While he was publisher of the Concord Monitor, the paper won a Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography.

Geordie also worked for a time as a Microsoft marketing manager, a carpenter, a retail sales clerk, a cowboy and an environmental policy researcher, not necessarily in that order.

Today, Geordie brings all of that experience – plus the knowledge absorbed as the son, nephew, grandson and great-grandson of newspaper publishers – to bear on his position as Publisher of The Frederick News-Post and Regional Publisher for Ogden Newspapers, overseeing a half-dozen additional community newspapers in Virginia and West Virginia.

Outside of his professional life, Geordie is married to Pilar Olivo, and they have three children. The family lives in downtown Frederick.

In the community, Geordie is president of the board of the Frederick County Literacy Council. He has served on the boards of the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce the Downtown Frederick Partnership, and he plays on several adult hockey teams and has coached youth hockey for years.
