Every weekend from mid-November until just before Christmas, our members go out into the community in pairs to ring the bell at the Salvation Army’s red kettles, raising thousands of dollars every year to support the organization’s work in the Frederick community. According to the Salvation Army, the organization receives more than $144 million annually nationwide through the red kettle program, helping the organization to provide food, shelter, rehabilitation, disaster relief, and more to people and families in crisis

Bell ringers raise an average of $30 per hour. It’s gratifying to know that in just two hours of ringing, our volunteers raise enough money to provide a week’s worth of groceries for a family of four. Despite the uncomfortable conditions at times, our volunteers look forward to this opportunity to reach out to our generous community. Working side-by-side with our fellow Rotarians for this worthy cause make Salvation Army Bell Ringing an important part of the holidays, and one of our most beloved annual service traditions.
