The PE convenes the nominating committee no later thanmid-September to begin the process of identifying potential candidates to fillthe slate for the following Rotary year. The slate should include a PresidentNominee/Program Chair, Secretary and Treasurer (on a rotating three-year cycleor sooner if a vacancy occurs) and Directors (number as prescribed by thebylaws).
Director positions are staggered two-year terms. Typically, therewill be four (4) director positions open to be filled. Should there be more openseats (resulting from resignations prior to fulfillment of terms), any partial,one-year terms should be filled by the member getting the next highest numberof votes, and so on down the line as required to fill open seats.
The PE brings a tentative of list of potential candidates forofficer and director positions for consideration by the nominating committee.While it is common and appropriate for the committee to give deference to thepresident-elect’s suggested candidates, no “asks” should be made before vettingby the committee.
Candidates for the Board of Directors should be ranked inorder of preference and should be comprised of members who have alreadydemonstrated an adequate level of positive engagement in club activities.
The President Nominee/Program Chair should have served onthe Board at some point, present or past.
Once the list is generated, the PE, with assistance from thecommittee if needed, should approach the potential candidates in order ofranking and should report back to the committee no later than the end ofOctober with the final slate.
